Tropicals, Trends, Vignettes, What’s Hot And What’s Not – Green Profit
Local garden shows herald the beginning of spring, and get our customers excited for the coming season. Managing editor Jennifer Polanz attended the Great Big Home + Garden Show in Cleveland, Ohio, last weekend and wanted to share a few consumer trends she spotted while catching some spring feelings herself.
What is there to do in dreary February in Cleveland but to head to the Great Big Home + Garden Show, that annual harbinger of spring? Though over the years it has seemed to be more home than garden, there’s still a good representation there from garden centers, landscapers and smaller vendors.
Petitti Garden Centers always has a huge presence, and this year was no exception. From tranquil outdoor rooms, where visitors could rest their weary feet, to the fun giant teapot spitting water and bubbles (if you look closely to the right you can see my two kiddos having a blast popping bubbles). The store in the Petitti’s area was jam-packed, and it looked like items like LiveTrends Designs’ heart-shaped and teardrop glass globes were popular, along with Ohio-related gear and, of course, miniature garden accessories. Petitti also sponsored the Gardening Stage, where speakers are on heavy rotation throughout the 10-day event.
